The following photos were taken on a monthlong trip through Romania in June 2007.

Biertan is a wonderful little village, perhaps the most beautiful we saw in
Romania, 25 km or so from Sighisoara. It is famous for its impressive 15th-century
fortified church, but the village itself is at least as enjoyable to stroll around.

another UNESCO World Heritage Site, with "three rings of walls [that] stand
up to 12 metres tall" (Lonely Planet).

This photo clearly shows the terraced hillsides around Biertan.
