These photos were taken on a month-long trip to Russia in May-June 2008.

We spent only 36 hours in Moscow, a city where I lived for a month in 1997, doing field
research for my Ph.D. dissertation. It's shinier now, and a hell of a lot more expensive.
Still endlessly interesting, though.

The British Embassy in Moscow. Well, it used to be -- it's the 16th-century
"Old English House," the first diplomatic legation for the Brits, in the Kitay Gorod district,
the heart of medieval Moscow.
